{"id":351,"date":"2013-02-08T13:55:37","date_gmt":"2013-02-08T13:55:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/empoweringaction.org\/?p=351"},"modified":"2013-02-08T13:55:37","modified_gmt":"2013-02-08T13:55:37","slug":"the-concept-of-calling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/empoweringaction.org\/es\/the-concept-of-calling\/","title":{"rendered":"The Concept of Calling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I was driving home one recent morning from the airport, after being stranded in Detroit overnight on my way back from a meeting in Buffalo (neither, take note, are coveted winter destinations), I ran across a powerful message from Dr. Tony Evans entitled \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tonyevansmp3.com\/tuaMP3s\/mp3-20130201.mp3\" target=\"_blank\">The Concept of the Calling<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0 The message was both relevant to me as an individual and our team as an organization, in \u201cserving God\u2019s purpose in our time\u201d in the same way the Bible describes David,<\/p>\n<p><i>&#8220;For when David had served God&#8217;s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his fathers and his body decayed.\u201d (Acts 13:36)<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Evans wisely reminds us that we MUST have a calling greater than ourselves, which maximizes the Lord\u2019s glory and expands His Kingdom, both of which I believe are at the heart of this new endeavor: <strong>Empowering Action<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Pastor John Piper states regarding this passage,<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cThe people whom God raises up from generation to generation are meant mainly to serve the purpose of God in their generation\u2026It may be our prayer\u2014that the ripple effect of our lives will go on for Christ&#8217;s sake after we are dead. But God&#8217;s will for us is that the burden of our ministry be on this generation. \u2018David served the purpose of God in his own generation.\u2019 His ministry goes on through psalms and through his seed.
