{"id":413,"date":"2013-06-07T13:44:05","date_gmt":"2013-06-07T13:44:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/empoweringaction.org\/?p=413"},"modified":"2013-06-07T13:44:05","modified_gmt":"2013-06-07T13:44:05","slug":"amongst-many-blessings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/empoweringaction.org\/es\/amongst-many-blessings\/","title":{"rendered":"Amongst Many Blessings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I count amongst my many blessings from the Lord the ability to spend extended time overseas in the presence of those with an impassioned heart for \u201cthe least of these.\u201d (Matthew 25:40)\u00a0 These faithful servants exemplify Christ, both in character and priorities, and as such are simultaneously encouraging and challenging on a personal level.<\/p>\n<p>While reading through John Ryle\u2019s <i>Holiness<\/i>, the section below brought to mind the many faithful, overseas servants and friends \u201cno longer living for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.\u201d (2 Cor. 5:15)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0\u201cA holy man will follow after a spirit of benevolence and mercy toward others. He will not stand all the day idle. He will not be content with doing no harm \u2013 he will try to do good.\u00a0 He will strive to be useful in his day and generation, and to lessen the spiritual wants and misery around him, as far as he can. Such was Dorcas, \u2018full of good works and almsdeeds, which she did\u2019 \u2013 not merely purposed and talked about, but did. Such a one was Paul: \u2018I will very gladly spend and be spent for you,\u2019 he says, \u2018thought the more abundantly I love you the less I be loved.\u2019 (Acts 9:36; 2 Cor. 12:15)\u201d<\/p>\n<p><i>\u00a0<\/i>And yet, we need not be an overseas missionary to seize the opportunity, as Christ followers, to daily:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cfollow after a spirit of benevolence and mercy towards others\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cstrive to be useful in our days and generation\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201clessen the spiritual wants and misery around us, as far as we can\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cnot merely purpose and talk about, but do\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cto gladly spend and be spent for others\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I count amongst my many blessings from the Lord the ability to spend extended time overseas in the presence of those with an impassioned heart for \u201cthe least of these.\u201d (Matthew 25:40)\u00a0 These faithful servants exemplify Christ, both in character and priorities, and as such are simultaneously encouraging and challenging on a personal level.
