{"id":926,"date":"2017-11-07T14:32:48","date_gmt":"2017-11-07T14:32:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/empoweringaction.org\/?p=926"},"modified":"2017-11-07T14:32:48","modified_gmt":"2017-11-07T14:32:48","slug":"attitude-and-aptitude-of-biblical-decisions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/empoweringaction.org\/es\/attitude-and-aptitude-of-biblical-decisions\/","title":{"rendered":"Attitude and Aptitude of Biblical Decisions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Einstein said, \u201cInsanity is doing the same thing over and over\u2026and expecting a different result.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Often in leadership we must make difficult, at times highly unpopular, decisions, given our desire to see different results, personally and professionally.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, I\u2019ve seen this play out, on both a micro and macro level, at my home church in Washington DC. As a result, I\u2019ve found myself reflecting on core convictions regarding the biblical process of decision-making.<\/p>\n<p>Haddon W. Robinson has written a powerful book, entitled <em><u>Decision Making By the Book<\/u><\/em>, where he notes an essential attitude and aptitude for biblical decision-making:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em><em>&#8211; \u201cGod has given us tremendous freedom and responsibility in making decisions. When seeking to carry out that responsibility, the place for us to begin is in an attitude of <strong>complete submission to the sovereign will of the all-powerful God<\/strong>.\u201d<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>&#8211; \u201cTo make good decisions <strong>I need to be mighty in the Word of God<\/strong>. This is not a peripheral issue. I need to know the Scriptures\u2014the New Testament and the Old.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>With that attitude of complete submission and aptitude of biblical literacy in mind, these are three questions I use to evaluate personal and professional decision-making:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a01.\u00a0 Was the decision bathed in prayer?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em>-If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (James 1:5)<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">2.\u00a0 Did I seek wisdom in Scripture?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em>-Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. (Prov. 3:5-6)<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">3. Did I seek wise counsel?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em>-Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety. (Prov. 11:14)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>CAUTION:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">-Beware\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Breeding discord<br \/>\nCreating disunity and divisiveness<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">-We recognize our passion<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Remember our role \u2013 WE are the primary disciplers of our children<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">-As parents we know:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">It\u2019s not what you do, it\u2019s how you do it<br \/>\nIt\u2019s not what you say, it\u2019s how you say<\/p>\n<p><em><u>Tithing <\/u><\/em>\u2013 Not\u2026.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>-Stockholder\u2019s meeting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">-Kid with <strong>his ball on a playground<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">-This isn\u2019t the same as your child\u2019s education: <strong>I pay my taxes!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Stewards of God\u2019s resources; not something to use for blackmail<\/p>\n<p><em><u>Confrontation &#8211; <\/u><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">-If you see that, we have a <strong>responsibility to speak truth in love<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">-Bear One Another&#8217;s Burdens<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Gal.6: 1-2<br \/>\n1Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness.
