{"id":932,"date":"2017-10-30T07:20:50","date_gmt":"2017-10-30T07:20:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/empoweringaction.org\/?p=932"},"modified":"2017-10-30T07:20:50","modified_gmt":"2017-10-30T07:20:50","slug":"sharing-eas-mms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/empoweringaction.org\/es\/sharing-eas-mms\/","title":{"rendered":"Sharing EA\u2019s M&#038;M\u2019s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently I was asked to clearly and concisely in 3-5 minutes share the motivation and methodology of Empowering Action to leaders of other Christian nonprofit economic development organizations. The request was quite last minute so I quickly assembled the bullet points below, which I pass along to you for your encouragement and edification:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>Empowering Action exists to combat physical and spiritual poverty in partnership with the local church<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We want to serve the local church. We want to build capacity within the local church to both declare and demonstrate the gospel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is simply impossible to alleviate poverty &#8211; in its fullest sense &#8211; apart from the local church.\u201d \u2013 <em><u>Church in Hard Places<\/u><\/em>, 9Marks.org<\/p>\n<p>We do so by facilitating growth of pastors and lay leaders in three areas:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">1. Personal Character (Be)<br \/>\n2. Theological Competency (Know)<br \/>\n3. Ministry Capacity (Do)<\/p>\n<p>We find <strong>MOTIVATION<\/strong> for our mission in the passages such as these below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>&#8220;Keep watch over yourselves [personal character\/theological competency] and the entire flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God [ministry capacity], which He purchased with His own blood.&#8221; (Acts 20:28)<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>\u201cAnd David shepherded them with integrity of heart (character); with skillful hands (competency\/capacity) he led them.\u201d (Psalm 78:72) <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Our <strong>METHODOLOGY<\/strong> to accomplish our mission focuses on 4 Core Competencies (In-house initiatives):<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>1. Acts 242<\/strong> \u2013 A Systematic Leadership Discipleship Process for members of our church network<br \/>\n2. <strong>Abundant Life<\/strong> &#8211; Church-based 16-week Poverty Alleviation Program<br \/>\n3. <strong>Genesis<\/strong> &#8211; Church-based Family Life Initiative, training churches to equip parents to raise a generation that both knows the Lord and the things he has done (Judges 2:10)<br \/>\n4. <strong>Church-based Savings and Credit Associations<\/strong> (Implementation 2018) \u2013 While Abundant Life addresses finances at an individual\/family level (the theology of work, household budgeting, small business practices and personal savings), Savings Groups will facilitate ministry at a corporate church (and community) level<\/p>\n<p><strong>Strength of our Approach:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Theology is global. Theology dictates our methodology, so while contextualization of practices is necessary, biblical principles are universal applicable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Threats to be Avoided:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Without prioritizing ministry regarding character and theological competency, we can actually inadvertently affirm negative behavior and bad theology, by helping a ministry to grow numerically.
