The Apostle John, addressing the need to provide support and hospitality to visiting teachers in the early church, wrote,
“Beloved, it is a faithful thing you do in all your efforts for these brothers, strangers as they are, who testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their journey in a manner worthy of God. For they have gone out for the sake of the name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. Therefore we ought to support people like these, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.”
Now, as then, the unbelieving world is unsupportive, even increasingly hostile, of ministries seeking to remain biblically faithful, unwilling to compromise their convictions. Secular society has no tolerance for ministries seeking to live out their divine calling of being salt and light.
This is why we need the support of the evangelical community. Not all of us can go to serve Christ’s global church; however, it is rare that someone cannot give. And Scripture promises that when you do, you become “fellow worker for the truth!”
